(also تقاضاي نيابت قضايي) letters rogatory, also letters of request : 1. A request by one court of another court in an independent jurisdiction, that a witness be examined upon interrogatories sent with the request 2. (in Iran) the medium whereby one court in one jurisdiction (ie in one town, city, or province) requests another court in another jurisdiction (ie in another town or city or province), and by methods of court procedure peculiar thereto and entirely within the latter’s control, to assist the administration of justice by the former court in the former jurisdiction 3. the medium whereby one country, speaking through one of its courts, requests another country, acting through its own courts and by methods of court procedure peculiar thereto and entirely within the latter’s control, to assist the administration of justice in the former country.
